Roswell Briefing 2007:
Here are some last minute instructions to help make your R2K experience more enjoyable.
**************************
Can everyone find Roswell, NM, on a map? Once you get to town, you'll find Main Street. The other major road is Second St, which runs perpindicular to Main. All of our stuff is happening on North Main Street or West Second Street.
You can pick up your registration packs (or register on-site) at the following places:
June 29th, 3 to 6 pm – Roswell Convention Center, 912 N. Main St
June 30th, 9:00 to 11:00 am - Roswell Convention Center, 912 N. Main St
What you will get is an envelope containing a show schedule, a participant survey, a T-shirt coupon and a judging sheet. These are in order of the last name of the person who registered. Then you will get a Goodie Bag from the box. It will contain flyers and freebies from the vendors as well as some "alien goodies" and the door prize tickets. You can trade the T-shirt coupon in for a shirt of your desired size during the car show on Saturday.
If you pre-ordered T-shirts, these will be available in a pre-bundled bag at the T-shirt tent during car show on Saturday. THE FREE T-SHIRT IS INCLUDED IN THIS BUNDLE. T-shirt coupons CAN NOT be redeemed at the SkyWatch party.
Please read the show schedule fully. There will be a lot of detailed information about the events.
The following car washes are located in town:
Soft Touch - 1112 N Main
Four Seasons - 3204 N Main
Roswell Laser Wash - 1007 S Main
J&J's Car Wash - 106 N Ohio (Take Main to Second, go West to Ohio, turn left)
Plains Car Wash - 1003 West Hobbs (Take Main South to Hobbs, go West to 1003)
There is a high mineral content in the water, so rinse and dry quickly. If you are at the power wash, use the "Crystal Rinse".
The SkyWatch is from 6:30 to 9 pm Friday night, June 29th. The location is a banquet hall called "The Clubhouse". It is 9 miles West of town on Hwy 380 (Hwy 70). That's Second Street when you're downtown; turn at the Cover Up Cafe going West. At 9:00 pm or so on Friday, we will set up the Pod Glow cruise. You are asked to add lights, glow sticks, valve stem lights, etc... to your car; then we'll cruise them all back into town. In the dark desert, this will be quite a sight.
The Car Show on Saturday is being held at the Roswell Convention Center. If you found Main Street (and I know you did) you can find this. It's at 912 N. Main and is hard to miss! The lot will be open pretty much as early as you want to get there. Registrations will open at 9:00 am. Turn into the lot to the South of the Convention Center and you'll see the entrance to the parking lot. Pull in and get parked, then you can get your registration pack if you haven't already done so. Check the show schedule in your registration pack for details on all the events planned.
There is a 7-11 and several fast food restaurants located on the West side of Main near the show.
Feel free to bring ice chests, tables, umbrellas,etc... for use in the area behind your car (but no grills, please). I would prefer that pop-up tents be used only behind the cars and they MUST be well anchored with sand bags or a suitable substitute. Any tents or umbrellas that blow into a car and cause damage will cause the owner to be liable for repairs. There is no rollerskating, rollerblading, skateboarding, scootering (or anything with roller, wheel or skate in the name) allowed on the grounds of the Convention Center. Sorry, but liability insurance prohibits this on City of Roswell property.
The Alien Baby displays can be set up on the tables in the far side of the Conv Center main hall. There will be a form there for you to fill out, most importantly being a permission for the show to use your entry in a traveling exhibit in the event that it wins. We expect to have these displayed at the UFO museum in Roswell.
The vendor area will open at 9:00 am, and I ask that you please stay clear of this area until we open it. We will be moving cars and heavy items around inside and there is a potential for injury.
Inside your registration envelope will be a survey form. This is so that I can gauge how many hotel nights we are booking for this show as well as what sites you are planning on seeing in New Mexico. It will help the show to get further hotel/motel tax money to use for promotion. When you are finished, take it to the T-shirt tent and trade it for a special commemorative R2Kv9 pin.
After the car show, we will have a New Beetle parade through. This is arranged with the Police Department to start at 3 pm and we'll have an escort and everything. The parade route circles back to the CC, so you can leave some items on-site while we are driving. Bring car decorating items that will look good in a parade. You can throw candy/items if you like, but make sure that you throw them to the sidewalk so that we don't accidently lure kids into the street.
Saturday night we will be having a drive-in movie at the Convention Center in the lot where the show was. We’ll see the Car Crazy show, along with "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo".
If you are interested in the "Caravan to Carlsbad Caverns " on Sunday, check for info in the Goodie Bag. It will start at the Chaves County Administration Center around 12:0. You may want to each lunch before you leave. It will finish up at the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns.
More details on all the events will be in the registration pack.

This should be enough information for you to make some plans, get to Roswell, and pick up your registration pack. The rest of the info will be in there.
SEE YOU IN ROSWELL!!!!!!!
